help me make this work
« on: May 27, 2009, 06:35:24 PM »

I have a old Mac G5 Tower. I have set it up with port mapping as the instructions stated. My Macbook Pro cannot play songs from the G5. What do I have to do make pulptunes work as advertised.

If I understood correctly, you have pulptunes running on the G5. Did it start correctly (pulptunes orange is on the tray)? Can you use pulptunes from the G5 itself through http://localhost:15000?

If that's working fine, and you want to use pulptunes with your macbook from inside the same network, you need to navigate in your macbook to the local ip of your G5, the one you should have used when doing the port mapping.

I'm not sure if this is your scenario, so correct me if I'm wrong.

You only need pulp installed in the same machine you have the itunes app whose songs you wish to access through the net, in your case the G5. Let's start by verifying pulp is running correctly there. After you start pulp, click on the orange icon in the tray, and select the "test locally" menu item. Safari should open automatically, showing the pulptunes interface with your music library. Let me know if you can get this far to continue with the following steps.

note, I have an Apple Airport EXPRESS, as a wireless router, the little one that looks like a pack of cigarettes. I hope you can still make it work.

To know how to connect from outside your home, click on the "Connection Instructions" menu item in the orange tray icon of your G5. You'll see something like "To use from outside your network, go to: http://x.y.z.w:15000"
That's the address you'll have to type in safari when browsing from outside your home network. You need to setup the port forwarding in your home router so that when there's an incoming request for port 1500 it then gets forwarded to the G5. You can find a guide here for an airport extreme, which should be the same than for the airport express. In that guide they mention a "static IP address", which is the local IP address of the G5 (not the same as your home address). You can use that IP directly when browsing from inside the network.

Let me know how it goes.

yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee

dont ask me how I did it since I wrote down 4 IP numbers but the 1st one I tried worked. So, I can access my iTunes Lib on the G5 from my laptop in my house, will the same IP work when I am at work though, that is the question? can you confirm what I have to do when I am NOT on the same network. Thanks.

That IP won't work from the outside. To connect from the outside you need to type in safari the IP your ISP provider assigns you. Pulp tells you what that is in the Connection Instructions window. Try following the guide to configure the router that I posted above, and let me know what specific problems you hit.
