Accessing from outside computer
« on: August 03, 2009, 11:18:50 AM »

This may be a really stupid question, but I got pulptunes working from my home computer, but I don't know how to access it from anywhere which sort of defeats the purpose...  Help!

I am working on a PC with Windows XP and the most recent version of Firefox.

Josh can you help me as well? Everything is set up correctly, the local test option works and if I type in my IP:15000 from my computer it works as well. Yet, this doesn't work from another computer. Any ideas?

you need to find the external ip address (public ip) of your router/computer
go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and it will tell you this at the top of the page.

for example say your public ip address is 92.11.147.193
your public address for pulptunes would be; http://92.11.147.193:15000/

however, if you have a dynamic ip address (like myself) - one that keeps changing. you shall need to use a DNS Updating service such as www.no-ip.com - its free, see help and stuff on that website for more info.

so my pulptunes address is http://alexpc99.zapto.org:15000/
and that is accessible to the public (even when my ip address changes because it automatically updates via the updater software downloadable from no-ip.com)

hope that helps. :D
